
Paris. — Marileidy Paulino has inscribed her name in the annals of Dominican Republic sports history by becoming the first woman in the country to win a gold medal at the Olympic Games. The outstanding athlete achieved this historic triumph in the 400-meter final at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
With her victory, Paulino joins the select group of Dominicans who have achieved Olympic glory. Before her, only two men had managed to win gold in the history of the Dominican Republic’s participation in the Olympic Games:
Athens 2004: Félix Sánchez, in the men’s 400-meter hurdles.
Beijing 2008: Félix Díaz, in boxing, men’s 64 kg category.
Now, with her gold medal at Paris 2024, Marileidy Paulino not only expands this list of achievements, but also establishes herself as an emblematic figure for Dominican sport, inspiring future generations of athletes.
