
Fans of the HBO series, The Last of Us (written and produced by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann), are counting the days until the premiere of its second season, scheduled for sometime in 2025. In the recent first trailer, which HBO has revealed some of the most iconic scenes from the video game The Last of Us Part 2. The teaser evokes the nostalgia of the original game, with details meticulously reproduced for fans of the saga.
Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal reprise their roles as Ellie and Joel, respectively. Although not featured in the trailer, the announcement did bring with it confirmation that Kaitlyn Dever will play Abby, another central character in the game. Isabela Merced will play Dina and Catherine O’Hara, known as Kevin’s mother in Home Alone, will also have a prominent role. Also joining the cast are Gabriel Luna as Tommy and Rutina Wesley as Maria, Young Mazino as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen and Danny Ramirez as Manny.

In the game developed by Naughty Dog, Ellie is driven by grief and revenge on a journey through a United States on the brink of collapse, facing infections and other dangers. Thus, the new part of the game is significant both in terms of plot and character development.
The original story takes place twenty years after the destruction of modern civilization. Joel, a hardened survivalist, is hired to smuggle 14-year-old Ellie out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What begins as a small job soon turns into a brutal and harrowing journey as the two must traverse the United States and depend on each other to survive.

What is the second season about?
The second season of the series follows the video game’s story, set five years after Ellie and Joel’s perilous journey through a post-apocalyptic United States. Both characters find themselves in Jackson, Wyoming, living in a prosperous and stable community, although not free of constant threats. According to the official synopsis, “Ellie embarks on a relentless journey to bring justice” after a violent event disturbs her peace. This narrative arc promises to explore the physical and emotional consequences of Ellie’s actions as she seeks revenge on those responsible.
