‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ has swept the world box office in its premiere and, in the process, has broken a good handful of records
‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ has been a resounding success at the global box office and, as expected, has landed in movie theaters breaking a few records along the way.
The Profitable Merc with a Mouth
The arrival of the Merc with a Mouth in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has debuted with a global take of 438.3 million dollars, 205 of which have been collected in United States theaters. The remaining 233 million dollars have come from 55 international markets, among which China, United Kingdom and Mexico stand out with 24, 22.1 and 18.7 million dollars respectively.
These figures have instantly made ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ the eighth best opening of all time in the United States and the biggest opening of an R-rated film – that is, for adults – in history both domestically and internationally, far surpassing the first ‘Deadpool’ that debuted in the United States with 133.7 million dollars and ‘Joker’, with 147 million.
But beware, because that’s not all. The list of achievements grows with recognitions such as the fifth best premiere of a superhero movie – after ‘Avengers: Endgame’, ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’, ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and ‘The Avengers’ -, the best premiere for Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman and director Shawn Levy, the best premiere of all time in a month of July in the US, the best premiere since ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ and, the best premiere of the 2026 film year to date.

Furthermore, worldwide, ‘Deadpool 3’ has become the highest-grossing release since ‘Avatar: The Sense of Water’, making the Marvel Studios franchise the highest-grossing in history thanks to a thunderous figure of 30 billion dollars in tickets worldwide; something that Sony, Paramount and Universal together cannot match against the almighty Disney.
In Spain, ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ has debuted with an authoritative number 1 valued at 4.4 million that has displaced Santiago Segura and his ‘Father there is only one 4’ to the second position with 1.1 million euros. Below the million mark we find ‘Gru 4’, ‘Inside Out 2’ and ‘Twisters’ with 0.74, 0.71 and 0.27 million euros respectively.

Reynolds’ explanation
Of course, the reactions of the top executives of the film have not been long in coming, starting with Ryan Reynolds who has admitted that the overwhelming success of ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ is «a difficult thing to process.» In addition, speaking to THR, the actor, producer and soul of the production has tried to make sense of the bombshell in the following way:
“Disney probably doesn’t want me to put it this way, but I’ve always thought of Deadpool and Wolverine as the first R-rated movie for all four demographic quadrants. Yes, it’s R-rated, but our goal was to make a movie with enough laughs, action and heart to appeal to everyone, whether you’re a comic book movie fan or not.”
